When individuals want to donate to Goodwill, they usually think of giving used clothes, toys, and other household items. These donations are important to Goodwill because they create jobs! However, "giving" to Goodwill extends beyond material contributions. The following outlines financial giving opportunities that you may want to consider:

Cash Gifts:

Cash gifts are tax deductible in the year the gift is given, even if checks don’t clear your account until after the first of the year. Checks should be made to Goodwill Industries of Dallas Foundation and mailed to:

Goodwill Industries of Dallas, Inc.
3020 N. Westmoreland
Dallas, TX 75212

In many cases, employers will match the amount you give, thus making it possible to double or triple your gift. Information on matching gifts can be obtained from your company’s personnel office.

Pledges:

A pledge is a promise to provide a gift in a specific amount over a period of time. You may pledge your gift and take as many as five years to complete your commitment.

Marketable Securities and Closely Held Stock:

You may use stocks and securities to make a gift to Goodwill. If the securities have appreciated greatly, you may find that you can make a larger gift at a lower cost than if the gift were made in cash. Stock in companies that are closely held are also acceptable gifts to Goodwill. Independent appraisals of market value must be obtained to ascertain the value.

Placing Goodwill in Your Will (Bequests):

To establish a Bequest, a donor places Goodwill as a beneficiary of their will. Bequests provide peace of mind for the donor by establishing in advance the heirs and favorite charities that will be provided for in future years.

Charitable Lead Trusts:

Charitable Lead Trusts are created when a donor places property or cash in trust with the income generated dedicated to Goodwill for a period of time (usually 15 to 20 years). The assets placed in trust revert to the donor or his or her heirs at the end of the time period. The trust provides an immediate tax deduction in the year that the trust is created and it often enables the donor to pass assets to his or her heirs usually with beneficial estate tax consequences.

Charitable Remainder Trusts:

You create a Standard Charitable Remainder Unitrust by irrevocably transferring assets to a trust that pays you (and another person or a survivor, if you wish) income for life. Then, the trust assets roll over to a designated charity, such as Goodwill.

Simply present your Reward Card to your Tom Thumb checker one time (prior to checking out), and request that your purchases benefit Goodwill Industries of Dallas (Reference #5232). After you set it up, your card will be linked to Goodwill. In other words, when you use your Reward Card after it has been linked, Goodwill will benefit!

If you shop at Kroger, go to the customer service desk and ask for a Kroger Plus card, and select Goodwill Dallas as your charity recipient. Each time you shop at Kroger, present the card to your checker before they begin to ring up your order. Ask the checker to "scan" the card. Every time you present the card when you shop, a percentage of your purchase amount is donated to Goodwill Industries of Dallas. Remember to scan the card each time you check out!

Supporting Organizations:

A supporting organization is a charitable entity that formally links itself with one or more existing public charities, such as Goodwill. The supporting organization allows its founders and their descendants the opportunity to support their favorite charitable causes through grants and distributions.
